Cleaning Refractory Mortar Tools: Plan Before Mixing

Tools are easier to keep in good condition when the cleaning method is prepared before mixing the mortar. Organise clean water, a place to set down equipment, and a container for residues. Do not wait with this decision until the material begins to harden on the mixer.

Separate working water from washing water

When preparing the mixture with Outdoor Oven Cement, measure the water according to the product data sheet. Water used for cleaning, containing residues of other binders and dirt, should not be returned to the next batch. Mark the containers to ensure that both uses are not confused.

Prepare a separate area for dirty and already cleaned tools. If you work sequentially with glue and mortar, establish equipment changes or the required cleaning between materials. Residues of the previous product may end up in the next package.

Act according to the type of material

Check the cleaning instructions and the safety data sheet of the specific mortar. Ready-mixed HPM Heatproof Mortar and dry material mixed on site have different preparation and storage requirements. Do not assume that the same chemical agent will be suitable for both and for all tools.

Remove residues at the appropriate time, before they create a layer that is difficult to remove. The cleaning method should preserve the surface of the tool and its function. For already hardened material, check the approved method instead of using a random aggressive product.

Finish the work without contaminating the stock

Separate residues from the packaging intended for further use. Hardened fragments should not be mixed with a fresh batch. Do not dispose of collected mortar and washing water onto the ground or into drains without determining the appropriate disposal route; determine the disposal method according to the material instructions.

After cleaning, check the mixer, the bucket, and the edges of the tools. Store the equipment under conditions suitable for its storage. For the next batch, it will then be easier to maintain the cleanliness of the mixture and achieve consistent application, instead of starting bricklaying by removing residues from the previous day.
